About

Welcome , enjoy Your stay.

Down syndrome of North West Florida has been created as a parent to parent support network. My goal is to provide information and resources for parents of children with Down syndrome or similar disabilities in Northwest Florida. To provide one on one support for someone who needs a shoulder to lean on. To provide a network of friends who can depend on each other. To provide awareness and promote inclusion!!!

When my son Christopher was born I had know Idea how much I had to learn. I had know Idea how hard and difficult things could be sometimes, raising a child with Down syndrome. I was also a single parent which made things even more difficult.I focused on using local and state resources to help guide me in the direction I needed to go, to provide the best for my son.  Over the past 7 years and through my own trials and tributes I have been able to accumulate a lot of resources and information. There are minimal resources in this area and by advocating educating and through collaborative efforts with other groups it is hoped that someday this will change.

There are new babies born all the time who have Down syndrome. These parents don't know where to turn to find answers to their questions. Those of us who have older children, what is in store for us? What about adolescents, and teen age years? What do we need to know?  Another parent can be such a great support, and this is why I have started Down syndrome of Northwest Florida (formerly pcdownies).

I am not claiming to be a professional of any kind. I am not offering medical advice, nor legal advice. I am a parent of a sweet boy with Down syndrome. Trying to make a difference in a community that needs it.
